Swan Hellenic
Swan Hellenic is a cruise line of British origin that built its name on lecture-led cultural cruising and now sails three new expedition ships to Antarctica, the Arctic and other remote regions. Its ships carry 152 to 192 guests and pair polar-class hulls with hotel-style comforts.

About Swan Hellenic
The brand began as Swan's Tours, a family travel agency whose tours of Greek antiquities, with guest lecturers such as the archaeologist Sir Mortimer Wheeler, grew into a full cruise program; the line dates itself to 1954. P&O bought it in 1983 and it later passed to Carnival, which closed it in 2007. All Leisure Holidays revived it with the ship Minerva until that group went into administration in January 2017. After a brief ownership by G Adventures, a team led by Andrea Zito bought the brand in 2020 and ordered ships from Helsinki Shipyard: SH Minerva (2021), SH Vega (2022) and the larger SH Diana (2023).
Voyages combine Zodiac landings with talks by scientists, historians and other experts. Most Antarctic sailings are round trips from Ushuaia, Argentina; the 2026–27 season has 33 Antarctic voyages, including four longer grand voyages.
What Swan Hellenic is known for
Swan Hellenic is known for its lecture program and cultural focus, a heritage that predates modern expedition cruising, and its new ships are praised by guests for spacious public areas, observation lounges, infinity pools and spa facilities on vessels of under 200 guests. Reviewers often compliment the crew and the expedition team, and the line has expanded its Antarctic program to 33 voyages for 2026–27.
The relaunched company has also had setbacks. SH Minerva was idle for almost three years from 2022 after sanctions affected her financing, and in November 2024 passengers on SH Diana protested, some with a hunger strike, after a motor failure forced the ship back to Ushuaia and cut landings short; the line offered a partial refund or future credit rather than full reimbursement. Travelers should read the cancellation and compensation terms closely.

- Couples
- History and culture
- Adventure seekers
Swan Hellenic suits travelers who want a polar or remote-region voyage with a strong lecture program, comfortable ships and relatively few fellow passengers: typically couples and well-traveled guests interested in history, science and wildlife, including those who remember the brand's cultural cruises.
It is less suited to families with young children, travelers on a tight budget or anyone looking for big-ship entertainment, and travelers who want the most activity-heavy polar trips, with camping or mountaineering, may find more options at specialist adventure operators.
