Crystal Serenity is out of service for a three-week makeover. The luxury ship has arrived at the Lisnave shipyard in Setúbal, Portugal, for a refit that adds a new pool bar, redoes a whole category of suites and gives the atrium a new look, according to Cruise Industry News.

Crystal first announced the drydock on May 11, 2026. Cruise Industry News reported on Oct. 24 that the ship had arrived at the yard. Here is what Crystal says guests will find when the ship returns in November.

A new pool bar on Deck 12

The headline addition is a new Pool Bar on Deck 12, midship. Crystal calls this "the heart of the ship's most vibrant outdoor space."

The point is speed. Crystal said the bar will allow "greater ease and efficiency of service," so guests by the Seahorse Pool can get drinks without leaving the pool area. Opening hours will change based on each itinerary and the weather.

The pool area will also get new loose furniture.

Aquamarine Classic Suites get a full refit

The biggest guest-room change is on Deck 10. Crystal said the Aquamarine Classic Suites will get a complete refit of their living areas and bathrooms.

The layout is staying the same. That includes the large bathrooms with a separate tub and shower. But the suites will get new furniture that matches the style Crystal introduced in the ship's 2023 transformation. The Deck 10 corridors will also get new carpet and wallpaper.

A redesigned atrium

The atrium is Crystal Serenity's main gathering space, and it is getting the most visible public-area overhaul. Crystal listed:

  • A new marble dance floor
  • A new stage for live entertainment
  • A De Castelli mosaic, like the one added to Crystal Symphony in 2025
  • More seating and a more open layout
  • A raised reception area with a new desk, a marble top and a backlit panel

Crystal also said the walls and columns around the atrium will get new wallpaper and mosaic details.

Smaller updates around the ship

Other venues are getting lighter touches, according to Crystal and Cruise Industry News:

  • Waterside Restaurant: renovated waiter stations and reupholstered chairs
  • Stardust Club: new tables and chandeliers
  • Marketplace: newly renovated chairs in the breakfast and lunch venue

"These enhancements underscore our commitment to creating meaningful, memorable experiences for our guests at every touchpoint," said Bernie Leypold, Crystal's senior vice president of hotel operations, in the announcement.

Work below the waterline

Not every change is one guests will see. Crystal said the drydock includes work on the propulsion line and a full mechanical overhaul of the fin stabilizers, which help keep the ship steady at sea. The hull will be cleaned and repainted. The ship is also getting electrical and automation upgrades, plus new sound and entertainment systems in its main public rooms.

Crystal said the technical work is meant to improve reliability and help cut fuel and water use and emissions.

When the ship returns

Crystal Serenity is due back in service in early November with a transatlantic crossing from Lisbon to Fort Lauderdale. Crystal's announcement gives a Nov. 8 restart and calls it a 15-day voyage. Cruise Industry News lists Nov. 9 and a 15-night sailing. Booked guests should check their own documents for the exact date.

Cruise Industry News said the ship will then sail in the Caribbean and on the West Coast through early January, before starting Crystal's 139-night 2027 World Cruise in the Pacific.

Why it matters

Crystal and its two ships were bought by Abercrombie & Kent Travel Group in 2022. Crystal said both ships then went through a $170 million refurbishment. This drydock is a follow-up that targets spaces and suites that were not fully redone then. It mirrors the work done on sister ship Crystal Symphony in 2025.
