Higher PSR means more enclosed ship volume per guest. We ranked all in-service ships with both GT and capacity on file, then highlighted the top 12 and compared them with the largest megaships. Ratings are Cruise Frog editorial scores, not passenger surveys. Figures change when lines update capacity or when new ships enter service.\n\n### 1. Viking Octantis\n\n[Explore Viking Octantis](https://cruisesfrog.com/ships/viking-octantis)\n\n79.8 — Viking expedition, 30,150 GT, 378 guests\n\n## Space beats size\n\nA ship can be huge and still feel packed. Cruise Frog's passenger space ratio, or PSR, divides gross tonnage by double-occupancy capacity. It is a blunt tool, but it is consistent across the catalog.\n\nWe pulled every in-service ship with both numbers on file on October 22, 2026. The leaders are not the Icon-class giants. They are expedition ships and yacht-style vessels that carry a few hundred guests in a lot of steel.\n\n## The top of the list\n\nPonant's Le Commandant Charcot sits first at 127.7 GT per guest. The hybrid icebreaker measures 31,283 GT and carries 245 guests. That is more than four times the space ratio of MSC World America, which is about seven times larger in tonnage but carries 6,762 guests at a 32.0 PSR.\n\nThe Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection takes the next two spots. Ilma scores 104.4 and Luminara 103.4. Both are about 46,750 GT with roughly 450 guests. Silversea's Silver Endeavour follows at 93.9, then Crystal Serenity at 93.1 — the highest-ranked larger luxury ship in this cut.\n\nLindblad's National Geographic Endurance and Resolution tie at 92.7. Seabourn Venture, Evrima, Crystal Symphony, Europa 2 and Viking Octantis fill out the top 12, all above 79 GT per guest.\n\n## What megaships look like by the same math\n\nRoyal Caribbean's Icon, Star and Legend of the Seas each score 44.3. That is solid for a 5,610-guest ship, and better than older Oasis-class ships that land near 40 to 42.\n\nThe densest big ships in our largest-ship list are Costa Toscana at 28.4 PSR (186,364 GT, 6,554 guests) and MSC World Europa at 31.9. They prove that tonnage alone does not buy breathing room.\n\nDisney Adventure is an outlier among the giants: 208,108 GT and 4,222 guests for a 49.3 PSR, closer to premium midsize ships than to the densest megaships.\n\n## How to use this ranking\n\nUse PSR when you care about quiet corridors, larger public rooms and fewer people at the pool. It will not tell you if the food is good or if the itinerary works. Pair it with our editorial ratings and the line's inclusions.\n\nLuxury and expedition brands dominate the top because they sell space as part of the product. Mainstream megaships sell attractions and price. Both can be the right cruise — just not by the same yardstick.\n\nIf two ships share a similar PSR, dig into cabin size, number of specialty restaurants and whether the line sells many third and fourth berths. Those details change the feel more than a one-point gap on the ratio.\n\n## Limits of the data\n\nPSR ignores outdoor deck area, how a line sells third and fourth berths, and whether a ship feels crowded in practice. A full ship with many kids in hallway berths will feel tighter than the double-occupancy math suggests.\n\nWe only ranked ships already in service with both GT and capacity saved. Upcoming ships drop on later as those figures lock in.\n\nBrowse the full leaderboard on our [top ships page](https://cruisesfrog.com/ships/top), or start with [Crystal Serenity](https://cruisesfrog.com/ships/crystal-serenity) if you want a spacious luxury ship that still sails classic ocean itineraries.","textStyle":"body","layout":"text"}]}
