Virgin Voyages is giving adults planning an Alaska holiday more ways to make the journey their own. Its October 27 announcement sets out 18 Brilliant Lady departures across five itineraries for 2028, with four itineraries described as new.
The season runs from May 1 to September 14, with Seattle and Vancouver serving as departure ports. Reservations open November 12, 2026. That gives prospective travelers time to compare the routes before choosing a sailing.
A week away, or room for a longer adventure
Fourteen departures are seven-night Seattle round trips. The announced route includes Ketchikan, Sitka, Endicott Arm and Dawes Glacier, and Victoria. For travelers fitting a cruise around a working week, this is the most straightforward part of the new program to investigate.
The longer choices add another dimension. A 10-night Vancouver-to-Seattle sailing opens the season, while a 12-night Seattle round trip and a nine-night Seattle round trip provide more time away. Those longer itineraries feature Hubbard Glacier. A seven-night Seattle-to-Vancouver departure closes the season.
Our take: the welcome feature is the choice of pace. Someone who wants a first taste of Alaska can start with a week, while a traveler making a long flight to the region can consider spending more nights aboard.
Brilliant Lady brings its own personality
Virgin's Brilliant Lady guide describes a ship that began its inaugural tour in 2025 and now serves destinations across North America. The onboard proposition includes Rojo by Razzle Dazzle, its Spanish-inspired dining venue, alongside the line's adults-only approach.
The attraction of pairing a recognizable onboard style with a landscape-led itinerary is easy to understand. A traveler can make the destination the main event while still looking forward to a favorite sort of evening after returning aboard.
That matters when choosing between otherwise similar routes. The best fit may be the ship whose restaurants, public spaces and entertainment appeal to your group, rather than the itinerary with the longest list of stops.
Our Brilliant Lady profile is a useful place to begin that comparison before looking at cabin categories and deck plans.
Choose the experience before the cabin
Start by deciding whether your priority is a particular glacier, a longer trip or a convenient round trip. Then compare the full travel plan: flights, a hotel before embarkation and the journey home.
A one-way cruise can become an appealing two-city holiday if you want time on land at either end. A round trip can keep the flight search simpler. Neither is automatically the better vacation; the useful choice is the one that matches how you want to spend your time.
For a group, agree on those priorities before shopping for rooms. That keeps the discussion focused on a shared holiday rather than a succession of cabin prices.
A date for the calendar
The booking opening is an opportunity to review available options, not a reason to commit before checking the details. Read the final itinerary, fare conditions and total price when reservations open.
For adults who have been waiting to combine Virgin's cruise style with Alaska, the expanded selection is encouraging. It offers a clearer way to choose the length and shape of the trip, with November 12 marking the next practical step.
