Virgin Voyages has canceled one of Brilliant Lady's 2027 Mexican Riviera sailings to make room for a private charter. The seven-night cruise was set to leave Los Angeles on Oct. 30, 2027. Booked guests have been told it will not go ahead.
The news was first reported by Cruise Industry News on Oct. 27, based on a message Virgin sent to guests.
The sailing that is gone
The canceled trip was part of Brilliant Lady's fall season on the West Coast. It was a seven-night round trip from Los Angeles. The ship was due to call at San Diego, Cabo San Lucas and Ensenada.
Virgin told guests the voyage "will no longer proceed due to a private charter." Charters happen when a group books an entire ship. That group is often a company, a club or an event organizer. When it happens, the regular sailing comes off sale and booked guests have to move.
What Virgin is offering
Virgin apologized to booked guests. "We're sorry for the disruption. We know how much planning goes into a vacation like this, and we certainly don't take this lightly," the company said.
According to Cruise Industry News and online reports, guests have these choices:
- Move to another sailing. Guests can switch to any other seven-night cruise from Los Angeles that leaves between Sept. 18 and Nov. 13, 2027.
- Keep their fare. Virgin is reportedly honoring the fare paid and any promotions from the original booking.
- Get a credit. Guests who move are reportedly offered a $100 credit to spend onboard the new sailing.
- Cancel for a refund. Guests can cancel for a full refund to their original form of payment.
During that window, Brilliant Lady is set to sail other Mexican Riviera trips. Those include calls at Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlán and Puerto Vallarta.
Tips if you were booked
A year's notice gives you time, so use it. Here are a few things to check before you pick a new date:
- Flights and hotels. If you already booked air or a hotel, check the change rules now. Fares for a new week may be different.
- Time off. The new sailing window runs from mid-September to mid-November. Pick a week that still works with your calendar.
- Your travel advisor. If you booked through an advisor, ask them to handle the move. They can also check that the credit and your promos carry over.
- Itinerary details. Some replacement sailings visit different ports. Make sure the ports you care about are on the new trip.
A busy fall for Brilliant Lady
This is not the only recent change for the ship. Cruise Industry News reports that weather forced Virgin to reroute Brilliant Lady's Oct. 20, 2026, sailing. That trip dropped Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlán and Puerto Vallarta. The ship instead headed to San Francisco, San Diego and Ensenada.
Brilliant Lady is the newest of Virgin's four ships. Like the rest of the fleet, it is for adults only, so there are no kids onboard.
