Hapag-Lloyd Cruises has shown how the suites on its luxury ship Europa 2 will look after a drydock in Singapore early next year. The ship is due in the yard from Jan. 9 to Jan. 23, 2027, and nearly all of its roughly 250 suites will get new colors, fabrics, lighting and furniture, Cruise Industry News reported.

This is a refresh, not a rebuild. The line says it will keep the existing design concept and the light woodwork that guests know. Its sister ship Europa follows with its own yard stay in Bremerhaven in the fall of 2027.

A refinement, not a makeover

"The architecture and design of the Europa 2 possess exceptional quality and contemporary relevance. Therefore, the shipyard stay is less about transformation and more about refinement," said Lisa Wilken, head of luxury cruises at Hapag-Lloyd Cruises. "Many interventions are deliberately subtle, yet their impact will be clearly noticeable."

The two Grand Penthouse Suites were already redone two years ago. This time the work covers the Veranda, Ocean, Grand Ocean, Penthouse and Owner Suites.

What changes in each suite type

Suite typeSizeNew look
Veranda Suite28 sq mMint and soft coral replace beige
Penthouse Suite42 sq mSame mint and coral scheme as Veranda
Ocean Suite28 sq mBlues and grays with warm brown accents
Grand Ocean Suite42 sq mSame blue and gray scheme as Ocean
Owner SuiteNot givenNew lighting, round dining tables, blue accents

In plain terms, 28 square meters is about 300 square feet, and 42 square meters is about 450.

Veranda and Penthouse Suites

These two types will keep sharing one style. Mint hues and subtle coral tones take over from the old beige. The line describes wave-like patterns meant to echo the sea around the ship.

Ocean and Grand Ocean Suites

As the names suggest, these suites lean into the sea. Shades of blue and gray set the tone, with warm brown accents. New carpets have flowing textures that echo the movement of the sea, and the new upholstery is meant to make the rooms feel lighter and airier.

Owner Suites

The Owner Suites sit on the top deck and have separate living and sleeping areas. They get new light fittings designed to copy natural light patterns. Round dining tables replace the old ones to soften the clean lines of the room. The beige stays, now paired with subtle blue in the fabrics.

Across all the suites, new colors will show up on sofas, armchairs, benches, bedspreads, curtains and carpets.

Why it matters

Europa 2 debuted in 2013 and is one of the line's two luxury ships, alongside Europa. On a ship this size, the suites are a big part of what guests pay for, so even subtle changes in color and light can shape how a cruise feels. Keeping the woodwork and the layout also means the work fits in a two-week yard stay.

Guests sailing on Europa 2 after the drydock ends should find the refreshed rooms. If you are booked on a January 2027 sailing, check with the line or your advisor about how the yard dates affect your trip. Europa gets its own turn in Bremerhaven later in 2027.

What we don't know yet

The line has not said whether public rooms, restaurants or the spa will change in the same drydock. It has also not shared plans for Europa's fall 2027 work. We will update this story when it does.
