Royal Caribbean's Navigator of the Seas has arrived in Singapore, starting a season there that runs through October 2027. The line said the Oct. 29 arrival marked the ship's Asia debut. It also gives Royal Caribbean a year-long base in one of the region's busiest cruise hubs.
For travelers, the draw is choice. You can take a weekend-length trip, a week in Thailand and Vietnam, or a long voyage up to Japan, all from the same port.
Short trips to Malaysia and Thailand
Most sailings are short. Royal Caribbean is offering two- to five-night getaways around Southeast Asia. Ports include Penang in Malaysia, known for its old streets and food scene. Phuket in Thailand is a beach stop, and Langkawi in Malaysia is known for its scenery.
These short trips suit people in Singapore and nearby who want a quick break. They also work for visitors who want to add a few days at sea to a city trip.
A longer run to Vietnam and Bangkok
There is also a 10-night itinerary to Thailand and Vietnam. It stops in Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang in Vietnam. It also includes an overnight stay in Bangkok, so you get more than a few hours ashore in the Thai capital.
For the longest trips, Navigator sails 12-night voyages between Singapore and Tokyo. Those visit ports in Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Because they are one-way trips, you will need flights at each end.
Ben Bouldin, Royal Caribbean's president of Greater China and managing director for Asia, said the ship's arrival is about "making it easier for vacationers to discover more of Asia from one convenient homeport."
What is on board
Navigator is a Voyager-class ship that first sailed in 2002. Royal Caribbean is selling it on its thrills and family features. The ship has The Blaster and Riptide waterslides, Battle for Planet Z laser tag, the Royal Escape Room and the Splashaway Bay kids' aquapark.
Dining runs from casual to specialty. Izumi serves Japanese-inspired dishes, Jamie's Italian serves Italian classics and Hooked serves seafood. At night there are shows in the Royal Theater, music and drinks at The Bamboo Room and a lively crowd at The Lime and Coconut.
Part of a bigger Asia-Pacific push
Navigator's season is one piece of Royal Caribbean's 2027-28 Asia-Pacific plan. From January to April 2028, Voyager of the Seas will sail from Singapore, Hong Kong and Tokyo. Ovation of the Seas and Anthem of the Seas will sail from Brisbane and Sydney in Australia.
When Navigator's season ends, Quantum of the Seas takes over in Singapore, with trips starting in October 2027. So Singapore should keep a Royal Caribbean ship well into 2028.
Should you book?
If you live in Asia, a short Navigator cruise is an easy way to try Royal Caribbean without a long flight. If you are coming from North America or Europe, the 10-night Vietnam trip or the Tokyo voyages give you more for the long journey.
A few tips help. Check visa rules for each country on your route before you book, since a Vietnam or Japan call can add steps. Also price your flights early on the one-way Tokyo trips. Finally, compare the short trips by port mix, since Penang, Phuket and Langkawi offer very different days ashore.
