About Tauck
The riverboats come from Swiss shipping company Scylla, Tauck's longtime partner, and are registered in Switzerland. There are four sizes: 135-meter Inspiration class boats for 130 guests, 110-meter Jewel class boats for 98, 125-meter Seine boats for 124 and 80-meter Douro boats for 84. Tauck deliberately carries far fewer people than the roughly 190 that other lines fit on a 135-meter hull, and puts many 300-square-foot suites on board. Between 2026 and 2028 it is adding five new boats, ms Lumière, ms Serene, ms Reverie, ms Saudade and ms Harmonie, while retiring two older ones.
Every sailing has a Tauck Cruise Director and up to three Tauck Directors who guide guests ashore. The fare covers shore excursions, gratuities, drinks on board including wine, beer and spirits, airport transfers, taxes and fees. Dinner is in The Compass Rose, with lighter meals at Arthur's, and many trips add hotel nights in cities such as Paris, Prague or Madrid. Six-day cruises were added from late 2026 for travelers with less time.
What Tauck is known for
Tauck is a regular in reader and editor rankings: it says Travel + Leisure readers have voted it onto the World's Best Awards for 29 straight years, and Condé Nast Traveler readers have ranked it among the world's best river cruise lines. Praise usually centers on the escorted format, the space per guest, the large share of suites and a fare that leaves little to pay on board, along with Tauck-only events ashore such as early visits to Monet's garden at Giverny and private château dinners.
The trade-offs are cost and structure. Fares are high in absolute terms, from about $3,000 per person for the new six-day cruises to more than $7,000 for an 11-day France trip, and the planned, group-guided days suit people who like an organized program more than those who prefer to explore alone. The 110-meter Jewel class boats date from 2008 to 2011, and on them the elevator does not reach the lowest cabin deck.

- Multigenerational groups
Tauck suits travelers who want a river cruise with the planning done: guided touring in every port, transfers and luggage handled, and almost nothing left to pay once on board. It works well for couples and for travelers drawn to history, art and wine; solo travelers pay no single supplement in Category 1 cabins on every European river cruise, and Tauck Bridges departures on the Danube, Rhine, Seine, Rhône and Douro are planned for families traveling across generations.
Travelers on a tight budget, independent types who would rather plan their own days ashore, and anyone looking for nightlife or big-ship amenities should look elsewhere. Guests with limited mobility should check which boat a trip uses, since the older 110-meter boats have no elevator to the lowest deck.
