About Uniworld Boutique River Cruises

Most of its European ships are company-owned and individually decorated in a boutique-hotel style, with antiques, original art and themes tied to their rivers, and the rebuilt or newer ones are marketed as Super Ships. Elsewhere it charters ships on the Nile, the Douro, the Mekong, the Ganges and the Peruvian Amazon, two former Crystal ships on the Rhine, and from 2027 an expedition yacht in Indonesia. In late 2026 its fleet page lists 24 vessels, including six new ships due in 2027 and 2028, while its oldest River-series ships are moving to sister brand Trafalgar.

In Europe the fare covers meals, unlimited drinks including spirits, shore excursions, gratuities, Wi-Fi and 24-hour room service, and suite guests have butler service; inclusions differ on the chartered ships in Egypt, Asia and Peru. Most trips run one to two weeks and often add hotel stays, and the line offers family Generations sailings, Jewish heritage and holiday-market cruises, and cruise-and-rail trips.

What Uniworld Boutique River Cruises is known for

Uniworld is best known for the decor of its ships, which mixes antiques, original art, chandeliers and bold fabrics, with each vessel themed to its region; the company says many ships share a design team with its sister company, the Red Carnation Hotel Collection. Its fares are among the more inclusive on European rivers, covering premium spirits, gratuities and excursions, and it advertises a ratio of about 2.4 guests per crew member. The look is deliberately ornate, which suits some travelers more than others, and prices sit well above mainstream river lines: Trafalgar, which now sails former Uniworld ships, positions its own river cruises as considerably cheaper and more casual. The older River-series ships that were never rebuilt as Super Ships have smaller standard cabins than the newest vessels, and the line has been retiring them. On its chartered ships in Egypt, India, Vietnam, Peru and Portugal, Uniworld itself says amenities can differ from its own fleet. Like other European river lines, it sometimes has to change sailings when water levels drop, as it warned for parts of the Rhine, Main and Danube in 2026.

  • Couples
  • History and culture
  • Food lovers
  • Multigenerational groups

Uniworld suits couples and other travelers who want a river cruise with nearly everything paid up front and who enjoy rich, traditional decor, wine and food, and guided sightseeing in historic cities. Its suites with butler service and the larger-cabin ships, such as S.S. Victoria and S.S. Elisabeth, appeal to those who want more space than a standard river cabin. Families can pick the Generations sailings, and solo travelers get dedicated savings on some departures. Travelers on a tight budget, those who prefer understated modern design, and anyone who wants big-ship entertainment or a long list of onboard activities should look elsewhere; Uniworld's sister brand Trafalgar now offers a cheaper, more casual river product on former Uniworld ships.
